Laugh and learn with Ollie & Ozzie
Being the older sister to a “little big guy” who has 7 middle names and difficulty saying his “s” sounds is a lot of responsibility. Trying to stay out of trouble while protecting him from bullies, strangers and bus monsters isn’t easy.
Ollie doesn’t mind though, because having Ozzie for a brother also means she has a friend for life and someone to share a secret wink that means “I’m on your side.”
Besides, if you can’t trade your kid brother for toys or candies, you might as well be best friends, because siblings stick together!

"I can't think of a better way to teach children life lessons than by reading about Ollie and Ozzie and their hilarious adventures. The way they look after each other is genuinely heartwarming and is a fabulous example of how siblings can be friends while showing a strong family bond! My students were captivated by the stories and begged for more. We are all looking forward to more stories about Ollie and Ozzie!”

"Ollie & Ozzie - Siblings Stick Together is a fun and interactive book that is packed with meaningful and engaging information which captivates a wide range of children through the perspective of two siblings' adventures. It creates opportunity for dialogue and the chance to touch on many curricular areas. I would highly recommend having a copy of this book! My students can't get enough!"

Danine Barnes is the author and illustrator of
Ollie & Ozzie - Siblings Stick Together!
Danine's favourite pastimes include camping, crafting and creating books. She loves family, friends and dogs (not necessarily in that order), and truly believes that siblings should stick together. (Well, most of the time.) In fact, family in general should stick together, but that's a whole separate book.
Growing up in rural Alberta in a close-knit family with an older and a younger brother, Danine has always had someone to watch her back. When her older brother moved out of their family home, he must have passed the torch to her big little brother, because there was never a gap in brotherly protection – even when she didn’t know she needed it!
Thankfully, Danine’s friendship with her brothers has only grown stronger over the years, and her own children, who are now adolescents, actually like each other as well.
Although the names, characters, places and incidents in these stories are a combination of my imagination and fictitious use of some hazy memories, the two main characters, Ollie and Ozzie, are loosely based on my own children.
Ollie is the narrator, and is inspired by my daughter as a young girl. Even though she regularly interacts with older children and sometimes uses words that are more advanced than expected for a child of her age, her incorrect grammar and childish comments display her naivety.
Ozzie’s character speaks with a frontal lisp, which is reminiscent of my son’s speech in his early years. He is intended to promote acceptance and show that the main characters in stories can include children with noticeable differences. He is to be enjoyed for his innocence and his tendency to take everything literally.
The sentence structure and misspelled words in the dialogue between Ollie, Ozzie and the other child characters are intentional, as they are meant to imitate the language and pronunciation of the child narrator and her friends.
This book is, therefore, not intended to be used as a tool to teach young children proper spelling and grammar. However, the stories are meant to provide entertainment and the questions included after each story are designed to inspire discussion and promote learning of life’s lessons.
I hope you enjoy sharing them!
